Activities for Winter Wellness! December 12, 2013 Cole Let’s face it: trying to stay active when the weather gets colder and wetter is downright difficult. It’s one of the main reasons why so many people fall off their fitness goals in the winter time. And combined with the stress (and calories) of the holiday season, an inactive winter can mean trouble for your physique. While you may want to stay snuggled up in your warm bed, winter shouldn’t be a time that your fitness goals hibernate. And looking good is only part of it – exercise has been shown to counteract the detrimental effects of stress, help battle depression, and improve cognitive function. At Cole Aesthetic Center, we’re always looking for ways to help you feel, think, and look your best. So we’ve put together these 4 winter activity ideas and tricks to help you stay-motivated this holiday season. 4 Ways to Stay Active This Season 1. Go out and play! If you can’t seem to muster the energy to work out this time of year, try “playing” instead. The best part about playing is that it doesn’t feel like working out – but being active in and of itself is a great way to burn calories! Take to the yard and make snow angels, or pull that sled out of the garage for some fun on a nearby hill. No snow in your area? Try ice skating – an activity you can do indoors or out! 2. Take up a winter sport. If you’re a competitive type, why not try a new winter sport? Between skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing, there are many great options that burn calories and put a whole new twist on your cold-weather workout plans. 3. Move around at home. Winter weather may be a valid excuse not to travel to the gym, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative at home. Whether you get started with a new workout DVD, invest in a few pieces of fitness equipment or even just using your body weight for a killer workout, exercising at home can be convenient and fun. 4. Try something new! Try signing up for a new class or joining an indoor sports league to get you up and moving during the chilly months. By trying something new, you reignite your motivation for fitness, cold weather and all. You might even learn some new skills and make some new friends in the process!
