Some of the earliest signs of aging can be seen on our faces but combating this is possible. As we age our muscles and skin slowly become lax leaving deeper wrinkles, creeping jowls or loose skin on the neck. A mini-face lift, also called an S-Lift, helps rejuvenate skin that has begun to sag around the lower face.

The S-Lift, or mini-face lift helps tighten and contour the lower 2/3rds of the face. Although it is nick-named as a mini-face lift, the results can be stunning. Its more common name, S-Lift, refers to the incision shape, which curves around the ear in an s-like manner.

A Mini-Facelift Can Help With:

  • Signs of aging and loss of youthful appearance
  • Excess fatty deposits in the lower jaw and neckline
  • Early stages of sagging or loose skin

Combining an S-Lift With Other Procedures

Since an S-lift procedure targets skin laxity in the lower 2/3rds of the face, patients may find that additional treatments or services will help them achieve their optimal results. While the mini-face lift itself helps tighten and contour, liposuction in the neck may be a great addition for those who also have volume concerns in the chin area. Combined, these procedures offer a more dramatic look and contour to the face.

Another procedure that can be combined with an S-Lift is a full-face laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing is frequently suggested in combination, as it further enhances skin texture and pigmentation. Patients often see better results in moderate to severe wrinkles in the treated area.

Downtime and Recovery for an S-Lift

Recovery following an S-Lift will vary from patient to patient, however most patients can resume their normal activity after their sutures are removed 10-14 days post procedure. While some professions may allow for patients to return sooner rather than later, our practice advises that you plan to take about a week off from work. Giving yourself time to rest and heal is vital to have optimal results.

How You Will Feel

Expect some bruising and swelling, and you’ll need to wear a compression wrap. Sutures will remain in place for 1-2 weeks to facilitate effective and clean healing at the incision sites. You may experience temporary numbness in the areas around the incision. This sensation is entirely normal, and the numbness will resolve as your healing progresses.

How an S-Lift is Performed

The process of completing an S-Lift is usually rather brief. The procedure is typically performed in the surgical suite in our office and takes about 2 hours.

The S-Lift is a surgical procedure that can be done with a local anesthetic or a light IV sedation, depending on the patient’s needs. The incision is made along the front of the ear in an s-shape contour, with the skin then gently lifted and the muscles underneath tightened. Any excess skin and fat are removed, and the incision is closed with tiny sutures. This procedure differs from a traditional face lift by the incision that it creates, as well as the extensiveness required in lifting the underlying muscle and skin. The S-Lift provides drastic results but is not as extensive as the face lift. The S-Lift is a good option for patients looking for improved youthful results with a less invasive procedure that offers a shorter recovery time.

S-Lift Results

Once you are healed, there will be some time before you see the full results. Your face will adjust to its new shape given time. But, it will be worth the wait. You will be able to see the full results of the mini-face lift surgery anywhere from 4 months to a year after your surgery.

Am I a Candidate For a S-Lift?

An S-Lift, or mini-face lift, can deliver results that leave you looking and feeling years younger. However, it is essential to have realistic expectations. Dr. Cole and his team work with patients to match a plan to their specific needs.

Sooner is better than later. Mini-face lifts are best for patients who want to catch sagging skin early on. The ideal age for receiving this procedure is between 30-40 years, though this is flexible. Patients up to about 60 years old might still be able to achieve results from this procedure.

For patients who are experiencing more severe sagging around the neck, a full facelift might be a better option.
