Dysport Injection

Many of you may be asking the question, ‘What’s the difference between Dysport and Botox?’ Depending on who injects the Dysport or Botox injection solution, each may have his or her preference, or the effect can change depending on the area to which it’s applied.

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a new alternative to the original Botox treatment that has been out on the market for about the same time in European countries for about the same time as Botox. Dysport has been approved in the United States and is now being used all over the world as a similar alternative to the Botox injection. Dysport is manufactured by the same company that creates a facial filler we use, called Restylane.

Why Dysport?

Many physicians will have their personal preference for each type of injection, but we at Cole Aesthetic Centers are always on the ball when it comes to working with the most innovative and top of the market treatments. Dysport can affect patient’s skin differently than Botox in that it takes to effect a bit faster than Botox. When Botox onset is anywhere from four to seven days, Dysport affects the skin and its wrinkles in anywhere from two to five days. Dysport has a tendency to move across a larger treatment area, and that means it can be beneficial in a larger space. So if you’re looking to treat your forehead lines, then Dysport might be a better option with a larger range.

Dysport is a wonderful alternative for those who may never have had facial injections and want to give it a try. Dysport is a neurotoxin that works by blocking the communication between nerve and muscle. Normally, the nerve “speaks” to the muscle and tells it to contract. This communication is present and critical for the movement of all muscles in the body. The upper face is unique in that movement is not vital for function. We can use this principle to weaken the muscles of the upper face in order to decrease wrinkles without affecting function.

The experienced physician injector can weaken these muscles of the upper face without changing the shape of the patient’s brow or completely eradicating their facial expression. After treatment, patients are still able to contract the untreated facial muscles and even the treated ones, allowing a full range of facial expressions like smiling, frowning, winking, and raising the brow. There is no need for anyone to look “frozen.” Dysport is injected into the muscle directly and relaxes them slightly to help smooth out the wrinkles in these areas. Dysport can also be injected in fewer areas than Botox.

How long does Dysport last?

Dysport can last up to four months and is recommended for those who have wrinkles between their brows.

We love this new option for facial injections and the treatment of deep to moderate lines and wrinkles. Dysport is effective but more natural-looking than some other treatments, and we recommend it to our clients all the time at Cole Aesthetic Center.
