What Are My Wrinkle-Free Options? November 8, 2012 Cole As we age, wrinkles grow deeper. However, you can change your look – without surgery. Facial fillers can lighten your frown lines, lift the weariness from your expression and reduce or even eliminate wrinkles, making you feel like your younger self again. Each of the options below are minimally invasive with a quick recovery time, so you can get back to your regular life with very little interruption. Botox/Dysport If you look weary or angry even when you’re feeling fine, consider Botox or Dysport. These two products are very similar, but Dr. Cole will choose to use one over another based on differences in your skin. A series of tiny injections which immobilize the facial muscles that are deepening your wrinkles. Botox softens your crow’s feet, furrows and frown lines, usually lasting 3-6 months before additional treatments are needed. If a habitual scowl is the culprit behind your wrinkles, you can use this time to retrain your facial muscles. Botox is non-surgical, requires no anesthetic and takes about 10 minutes. The results appear within days; in fact your appearance may continue to improve for up to a month. Juvederm When you’re young, your body produces plenty of its own hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring carbohydrate which moisturizes your skin and lubricates your joints. HA is found throughout your body, from your bones, to your cartilage, to your gums, to your eyes. The greatest concentrations, though, are found in your skin – as much as 50%. As we age, it gets harder for our bodies to replenish the HA it needs. Juvederm is a gentle, volumizing HA injection for the surface of your skin, which can last up to a year: safely and effectively replenishing lost HA in your face, lightening the “parenthesis” wrinkles lining your mouth and nose, and restoring a younger you. Restylane Restylane also replenishes the HA your skin has lost, bringing back the elasticity and smoothness of your younger skin. Results can last for 6 months to a year, smoothing the folds and creases around your nose and the corners of your mouth. Because Restylane is more cohesive than Juvederm, it can be shaped where needed, remedying wrinkles that are moderate to severe. For example, wrinkles in your lower eyelid, or in the hollow of your tear trough, may benefit from Restylane: bringing volume and fullness to the surface of your skin. Perlane Like Juvederm and Restylane, Perlane restores your skin’s lost HA, smoothing the hollows and creases in your face for a smoother, younger look. The difference is that it’s a denser formulation with larger gel particles, designed for a deeper injection, where it can add support to your skin’s middle layer and remedy more severe wrinkles, lasting 6-12 months or longer. All three HA injection options – Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane – don’t just soften your existing wrinkles. The HA they provide also draws fresh moisture to your skin and helps you retain it, too. Radiesse Calcium and phosphorous are vital minerals for healthy bones, muscles and blood pressure. Radiesse is a gel made of calcium and phosphate ions, an organic compound that binds to your facial connective tissue. It doesn’t just fill your creases; it actually rebuilds them in the deepest layer of your skin. As such, Radiesse is a good choice for sculpting or plumping the grooves and hollows in the chin and cheeks. The injection is permanent, with results lasting for over two years, with possible touch-ups needed. Depending on your needs, any one of these options (or a combination) may be the right choice for you. Chances are we can help you lighten the frown lines and lift the weariness from your face, simply and effectively, with a facial filler. To find out more, contact Dr. Cole for a consultation.
