Canthoplasty
Canthoplasty
The shape of our eyes conveys a lot. We are naturally wired to make assumptions about each other based on nothing more than the size and shape of our eyes. At Cole Aesthetic Center, we understand that our natural eye shape may not convey the message we want to send the world. That’s why we offer top-quality canthoplasty surgery for individuals who wish to adjust the shape of their eyes. Canthoplasty can be for either aesthetic or functional purposes. Its goal is to reshape the outer corner of the eye. Often, the desired form is a beautiful almond shape. This is why the surgery can also be referred to as almond eye surgery.
Beauty ideals can vary from person to person and from culture to culture, but we each have a way we want to present ourselves to the world. Dr. Cole and his team are dedicated to helping you reach and realize that self.
Canthoplasty Procedure
Each canthoplasty procedure will be unique. Everyone has a different starting point for their eyes, and the techniques to reach the target shape can vary. The surgery is straightforward but requires a skilled surgeon for optimal results. As a board-certified oculofacial surgeon, Dr. Cole has performed countless canthoplasty procedures. The goal of the procedure is usually to tighten the lower eyelid. With minimal incisions, Dr. Cole is able to create a tighter, well-proportioned eye shape.
A canthoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia, although it may also be performed under moderate anesthesia, depending on the patient. ,Dr. Cole has developed techniques for canthoplasty that effectively hide incision scars in your body’s natural contours. Dr. Cole uses these small incisions to adjust the lower eyelid to its new position. He carefully shapes the eyelid to match your unique facial features. Dr. Cole takes great care to ensure incisions are artfully hidden to not distract from his patients’ youthful results. This procedure is an outpatient procedure that usually lasts around an hour unless it is combined with another procedure.
Combined With Other Procedures
Since a canthoplasty focuses on the lower eyelid, it often is combined with other facial procedures. This treatment plan is often discussed and built during your consultation.
It can be combined with other eyelid surgeries such as blepharoplasty or ptosis surgery. Also, you can plan to do it along with a brow lift or a midface lift. When combined with other surgeries, you can expect longer recovery times, but more transformative results.

Recovery and Results
Am I a Candidate for Canthoplasty?
A good candidate for canthoplasty will be in good health leading up to the surgery. Good health is essential for a successful surgery and healing period. That is also why we advise staying away from smoking in the weeks before your procedure. You’ll want your body at full strength so you can heal quickly and enjoy your results sooner.
We also work with our patients to make sure their expectations are healthy. Knowing what can and can’t be done as part of the procedure is an important factor.
During your consultation, Dr. Cole will be sure to go over every aspect of your candidacy. He can discuss any health concerns you might have and can provide advice on how to best prepare yourself for the procedure.
