Mid Face Lift ( Cheek Lift)

What is a Mid Face Lift (Cheek Lift)?

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and volume, and we develop lines around our mouth and a hollowness in the under eye area.  A mid face lift or cheek lift is a surgical procedure to reposition the cheek fat up onto the cheekbones where it used to be when you were young, giving you the look of having fuller cheekbones, just as you have when you smile. It raises the outer eyebrows, and flattens any folds at the corners of the mouth.  This procedure can also be performed with upper or lower eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty), a neck lift or brow lift.

How is the Mid Face Lift (Cheek Lift) Performed?

The mid face lift, or cheek lift surgery is performed through an incision in the temple scalp, and another inside the mouth underneath the upper lip. This procedure may also be performed through a lower lid incision while simultaneously rejuvenating your lower eyelids. Both incisions are hidden, so the only outward signs of the surgery are the improvements to your looks.  During surgery, the patient is typically under light sedation anesthesia, but it can also be performed under local anesthetic with a mild sedative.

What is the Downtime for a Mid Face Lift (Cheek Lift)?

For most patients, the downtime for a mid face or cheek lift is about the same as with a traditional face lift.  There will be sutures at the incision sights for up to 2 weeks, and during that time it is common to expect bruising and swelling, and have very limited activity.  Most patients are usually feeling better within a few days to a week, and can resume normal activity within 3 weeks.
