Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)
What is Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)?
Blepharoplasty, or Eyelid Lift, is the surgical treatment for correction of droopy, saggy or puffy eyelids. They can make you appear tired or angry and add years to your appearance. Many patients elect this procedure for cosmetic reasons, but for some it can be medically necessary in order to improve loss of peripheral vision. Dr. Cole will discuss this with you during your consultation and determine whether further testing might be needed. This procedure is often combined with a face lift, neck lift or brow lift depending on the desired result.
How is the Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift) procedure performed?
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift) can be performed on either the upper eyelids or the lower eyelids. An incision is made along the natural creases of the upper eyelids or from the inside surface of the lower eyelids. The extra skin and fat is removed, resulting in a brighter, more awake appearance. During surgery, patients are under local anesthesia, supplemented by a mild sedative, but it can also be performed under light sedation anesthesia. With either method, the patient is quite comfortable.
What is the downtime for Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)?
Most patients are back to their normal routine within a few days, although complete recovery may take up to 2 to 3 weeks. Swelling, bruising and some discomfort are part of the recovery process and can usually be alleviated with cold compresses and a mild pain reliever.
