When you are on the quest to achieve a more youthful look, there are plenty of weapons in your arsenal. One that doesn’t get as much attention but can offer dramatic results is the cheek lift. Also known as a midface lift, this surgical procedure restores youthful definition to the cheeks while refreshing the eye area at the same time. Check out these reasons a cheek lift might be the next tool in your anti-aging crusade.

What is a Cheek Lift?

A cheek lift is a surgical procedure that focuses on reviving the middle of the face, including the cheekbones, temples and under the eyes. The aging process can takes its toll on this area, causing dropping and hollowing of the cheeks that can make you look older and more weary than you feel. The loss of volume can also affect the area under the eyes by producing dark circles and bags that exacerbate the fatigued appearance. A cheek lift reverses some of these effects, bringing back your younger facial profile and waking up your appearance.

Cheek Lift Benefits

There are a number of cosmetic benefits you can achieve through a cheek lift:

  • Repositions the tissue and fat in the midface to create more youthful cheek definition
  • Eliminates the hollowing underneath the cheeks that produces a weary look
  • Removes loose, sagging skin from the area for a firmer appearance
  • Refreshes the area under the eyes, removing bags and tear trough hollowing
  • Raises the upper eyebrow to further awaken your appearance
  • Flattens out folds at the corners of the mouth, known as smile lines

A cheek lift can be performed alone, but Dr. Cole often recommends this surgery in combination with other procedures like a brow lift, neck lift or eyelid surgery to further enhance the results.

Procedure Details

A cheek lift is typically performed on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia with sedation. Incisions are usually placed and inside the hairline around the temples. If eyelid surgery is performed at the same time, incisions may be made in the natural creases of the upper eyelid as well. For lower eyelids there are no sutures since the incision is made on the inside of the eyelid. None of these incisions will leave visible scarring after the procedure.

Through the incisions, Dr. Cole repositions underlying muscle and tissue to create a more youthful facial contour. He will also remove excess skin to reverse the drooping look caused by skin laxity. While a cheek lift alone can often be performed in around 30 minutes, the time of the procedure will depend on the amount of correction required and whether other procedures will be done at the same time as the cheek lift.

Recovery and Results

Recovery from a cheek lift is similar to that of any facelift procedure. Patients can expect some swelling, bruising and discomfort immediately following surgery, which can be managed with oral pain medication for the first few days. Bruising and swelling generally subside within a couple of weeks, which is when most patients feel comfortable going out in public. The majority of our patients are back to their regular schedules within 2-3 weeks, although strenuous exercise will likely be restricted for longer to give the surgical area ample time to heal.

A cheek lift is an effective, long-lasting way to restore youthful vitality to the midface area. To learn more about this procedure, contact Cole Aesthetic Surgery at 360.613.2600 to schedule your personal consultation with Dr. Cole today.
